Tips for Life: Make it Yours!

By Deb Powell, Healthy Planet Columnist

October in Canada is a beautiful month with the leaves and grasses turning their vibrant fall colors. Bright reds, oranges, yellows, and burgundy’s, they remind me of works of art.

Artists pour their hearts into their work when they create. Their emotions come deep from within and are emptied onto a canvas, a musical instrument, a lump of clay, or a blank page. They know their finished work will connect with the right people, and at the right moment.

An artist’s work should never be touched by anyone, risking the changing of the emotional expression that helped create it.

This is my last article for the magazine, so I’m leaving you with my final tips, hoping you’ve benefited from my years of organizing and inspirational articles, and my tips for life.

Tip #1. Laugh! Laughing is one of the most healing things we can do. It heals us physically, emotionally, socially, and affects every cell of our bodies. Watch comedy, play with kids, have fun with friends… do something. Try it, you’ll feel better, and your health depends on it.

Tip #2. Garden in the house! Live plants in the home are naturally calming, and it’s the closest thing to being in nature, when we can’t be in nature. That means we can have nature’s living greenery with us all the time. Do you know many plants also clean the air by filtering it, and most plants give us oxygen? Grow lots. Get healing.

Tip #3. Time out! You need to look after yourself. If you don’t, someday, someone else will have to. Rest, eat healthy foods, get fresh air, walk and move as much as you can, listen or dance to your favorite music, express your creativeness however that is. Take at least 15 minutes a day just for you.

Bonus tip: Do unto others! You’ve heard it before. Do unto others before they do it to you… Ha! Not the one I was thinking of… Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. Be kind. Be fair. Be helpful. It’s a tough world out there, stick together and be a family. Be a community.

Just like this painting came from my heart, and was full of many emotions, you can create your life the way you want it: IT’S YOURS!

Farewell ☺
